La Porte Historical Cemetery
La Porte, California
August, 2009

We did a preliminary investigation at the La Porte Historical Cemetery in La Porte, Cailfornia.

We just happened to be in the area and it was recommended to us by local historians.

Investigators: Harold Curtis & Tanya Curtis

Equipment used: Digital camera & Digital recorder

On a little side street just off the center of town, this historical cemetery dates back to the Gold Rush era. Recommended for and by history buffs, just the epitaphs on the headstones were worth going to see. It did bring to mind how harsh life must have been back then. The cemetery seems to be still in use, as there were pretty recent dates on some of the stones.

Headstones range from carved wood that is barely standing to elaborate marble, and many small unnamed markers pounded into the ground, some overgrown so much that they are difficult to find. Ages range from infant to elderly.

Evidence gathered: Nothing out of the ordinary.

Photo evidence: Nothing out of the ordinary captured

Recorded evidence: Nothing out of the ordinary captured

Personal experiences: Peaceful location with good energy

Investigation techniques: Photos taken near gravestones, near boundary fences, over bare areas throughout the graveyard. Nothing extraordinary noted in any of the photos. No EVP's or auditory evidence. Photos taken of Gold Rush buildings nearby as well.

Conclusion: Would love to come back to this location some time. Although we captured no physical evidence while there, it was definitely worth the trip. There is also a Gold Rush era hotel and several other historical buildings that we would enjoy seeing if they have any experiences there (they were closed at the time).
